Mercy!

“Blessed are the merciful, because they will be shown mercy.”
Matthew 5:7 (HCSB)

I remember as a child playing a silly game called mercy. I would play it with my cousin George who was much older and stronger. Can I just tell you this morning, Cousin George showed me very little mercy in playing this game. He would try and break my fingers. Most of you are probably familiar with the game, you lock your fingers together with your opponent and you try and bend their hands back as they are trying to bend your hands back. It really hurts! The loser is the first one to shout mercy! I was stubborn, but he was much bigger and stronger so I would always hold out as long as possible, then I would shout mercy. George, would always hold me a little longer than necessary after I shouted the magic word with this evil smile on his face. Sometimes, he would make me say other things before he would release my hands. I must admit that I smile when I think about those innocent childhood games. But I also can’t help but think, that I am glad that God is not like that! He showed us mercy before we were even capable of showing mercy. This beatitude is probably one of the most misunderstood. By reading it casually, it appears that our being merciful is a condition of receiving mercy from God! This is not what it means. God shows us mercy because He is GOD. What this verse means is that we (believers) should be merciful because we have obtained mercy. There is a promise here in this verse; the promise is that God will show the merciful…mercy! Being merciful is a characteristic that all Christians should have! The ability to show mercy to others shows growth in the life of a believer. We should possesses the ability to show forgiveness for the guilty as well as compassion for the suffering and the needy. How are you doing at showing mercy to those you meet everyday? My prayer for you today is that you will seek out opportunities to be merciful. I love you all!

Christmas time on Bearwallow

Here is a little poem that I wrote several years ago about my Christmas memories of my childhood! Enjoy!

Cold, brown, bleak…dampness
The smell of wet leaves, wood smoke, coal soot
Trees…the bare branches moving in the cool air
Frost on the windows…behind the windows soft lights from lamps on end tables
Warmth from a gas stove…warm socks on wood floors…a ten year old’s dream
Wonderful smells wafting from the kitchen…iron beds…mattresses to soft…wardrobes with secret drawers. A pocket knife, colored lights on a fresh cut cedar that does not fit well in the stand…simple ornaments, each one having a specific and special meaning…conjuring thoughts of Christmas’ past
The here and now…grand children…children…family and friends, a season of joy, a season of hope! A love for God and a love for people…memories that transport you back to a place and a season…Christmastime on Bearwallow…

epitome of laziness

Jesus…the only way

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (John 14:6)
Jesus…He is the only way. There is no other way apart from Jesus to get to the Father in heaven. His word clearly teaches this. I want those who read this blog to understand this. Jesus, is the only way! If there were any other way to heaven, I would throw away everyone of my bibles and never preach again. He, is the only way We have to understand this passage of scripture, Jesus is the only way. Notice what the word proclaims, Jesus says that He is “THE WAY”. He does not say that He is a way, but THE way. He also says that He is the truth. Jesus is absolute truth. His word (the Bible) is the believers authority and it is the absolute truth. The definition for truth here is “what is true in any matter under consideration” He is the truth! Jesus is the only truth that exist today. He is also life, a relationship with Jesus leads to life. I was dead in my sin and Christ Jesus changed all of that. My relationship with Him has given me life! How are you doing today? Are you enjoying the Jesus life? He is the only way to real life! I love you all <><

Impossible…I think not

Billy Sunday said, “We have a God who delights in impossibilities.” I love this quote! I like to think about impossible. Many times in my life I have experienced God overcoming problems that I thought were impossible. When I could not see the way out, I have seen God deliver me from the problem. Our God is truly is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we could ever hope for or imagine! His Word teaches us this. He is a God that can do so much more when we give Him total control of our lives. What impossibilities are you facing this week? I want you to know this morning, that you can approach the throne of grace with confidence. You can approach God knowing that He is able to help you overcome any challenge or obstacle! Why not give God control of your impossibilities this week. Do as the bible teaches and cast your burdens on Him. I promise you that He is able to shoulder what ever burden or challenge that you may be facing! Our God, truly is an awesome God!
I love you all! <><
