Are you a revolutionary? If there were ever a time when believers should ponder their life and relationship with God it is now. Mediocrity and indifference appears to be the attitude de jour as countless people are searching for the peace that surpasses all understanding and they struggle and stumble through life trying to figure it all out on their own! As believers, we must be radical and revolutionary in our approach at reaching out to a lost world. Can I tell you that there is no time like right now to start reaching. I have been thinking a lot lately about being a radical and in my thinking I began to think about essential characteristics that radical people possess and wanted to share some thoughts with you about these characteristics in this blogpost!
First, revolutionaries Dream Big! In Jeremiah 29:11 scripture teaches “For I know the plans I have for you” (this is the Lord’s declaration) “ plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” This declaration the Lord had for the exiles in Babylon is just as relevant for believers in the church today! The bible teaches us to “take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your hearts desires”. Some of the first questions for a would be revolutionary is…are you delighting yourself in the Lord? What are you dreaming about? What is it, that you want to accomplish for God? I like to dream. I really believe that the sky is the limit! To often I meet people who put limits on their own life which I believe limits God in the way He uses them. Some wise person once said “can’t never could”. I believe that God began a work in me that is going to take me places that I never dreamed possible. I want to be part of a movement because I know that God has tailor made plans for me. He also has plans for you! (Big Plans) Are you setting goals? Do you have goals? Have you written those goals down? God has expectations of us. We are not to sit idly by waiting for direction. Revolutionaries seek God and look for opportunities to glorify Him. If you are setting goals for your life, and you already know how to achieve those goals…I am here to tell you that your goals are to small. We are to set goals that can only be accomplished with God’s help! Dream big!
Second, we need to Work Hard! Please don’t miss understand me, it is by grace you are saved through faith. We are not working our way into heaven, Christ Jesus accomplished the way for believers when He died on Calvary’s Cross. Realizing this, we also need to understand that everything we do needs to be done as unto the Lord. God wants and deserves our very best. He truly wants us to “Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe every thing that I (Jesus) have commanded you.” We must understand that discipleship is a process. Salvation is the beginning of the process. When dreaming big and working hard, we have a responsibility to those people we lead to the Lord. So many times when asked the question about witnessing or evangelism we often say that our biggest fear is persecution or rejection. We need to pray and let God know about our fears. Take the step of faith required in being a great commission Christian. God will be with you every step of the way. Develop a solid work ethic and never be ashamed of the gospel because it truly is God’s power that drives it (the gospel).
Third, we need to “Get it done”! “Don’t put off till tomorrow, what can be done today.” So many times we fail to tell someone about what God is currently doing in our own lives. The key word is currently! What is God doing in your life today? Has He done something in your life in the past 24 hours? Has He done something in your life in the past week, or month or even year? If your testimony consist only of your salvation experience you are not growing spiritually. God wants to be an active part of your day. Do you know people that do not have a relationship with Jesus? Of course you do. What is keeping you from sharing your faith with those people today. I want to tell you, there is no time like the present. Many people tell me “I invite them to church” and don’t get me wrong this is a great thing. We should invite people to church! But what I want you to understand is church is not going to save them. Instead of inviting them to church, invite them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. When they surrender their lives to Christ, they will want to come to our assemblies. Get it done, think about the person that you have been praying about witnessing to, and call or take them out today and share about what Jesus has done in your life.
Fourth, believers need to Play fair. The bible teaches us to “Be imitators of God, therefore as dearly loved children and live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” When people look at believers they should see Jesus. We are to be mirror reflections of Him. Think about it, Jesus is fair. He expects us to be fair in the way that we deal with people. Don’t let others unfairness bring you down. Do what is right, don’t conform to the patterns of this world. Be transformed. Your reputation matters. What you do and say, and what others see in the way that you live your life says a lot about your relationship with Christ. Play fair!
Fifth, Have fun! Being a Christian is loads of fun. Its ok to have fun! The Bible teaches us that Jesus came came so we could not only have life, but an abundant life. An abundant life to me sounds fun. He has allowed me to experience some amazing things across the years. My life as a believer is loads of fun. I find true joy in serving Him and His church. Somehow and somewhere along the way in the history of the world someone has made the Christian walk boring and hum drum. My life is anything but boring and hum drum. If you are a believer and your life is boring and hum drum, you are greatly missing out on what God intended for you! My relationship with Christ is challenging, it changes the way I think and approach life. I truly realize that my life here on this earth is short compared to what I will be doing in eternity. If people are going to see the Love of Christ in my life here on earth, I should be enjoying my relationship with Jesus. I have found that when there is sin in my life, I am not experiencing the joy because of the sin that brings separation between me and my Savior. You may be reading this blog and be thinking that I feel ten million miles away from God…can I tell you…it is only one step back. His word tells us that He will never leave, or forsake us. Have fun following Him!
Sixth, Make a difference in someones life. The greatest joy that I have experienced in my first 50 years on this planet is being able to impact someones life for eternity. I love mentoring people. God has truly blessed me by allowing me to spend time with young people who are searching for God’s will for their lives. I want to encourage those of you who are reading this post to find someone and invest into their life. I have had many great men who have plugged into my life over the years. Men who love Christ and loved me enough to spend the time leading, directing and preparing me for what God has called me to do! My prayer is, that I would be able to give back to my Lord some of the great things that have been given to me. Make a difference…start today, you will be blessed beyond your wildest imagination.
Are you a revolutionary, do you possess these six characteristics? I hope and pray so, and I pray that you will use them starting right now, to impact everyone that you come into contact with. I love you all! <><
