I sit here this morning overwhelmed at the news coming out of Las Vegas. I am shocked and drawn to prayer. Words come slowly, I try and understand why someone would do this. My heart goes out to all of the families. My heart goes out to an American city. We know now that 58 people have lost their lives while enjoying a concert. We also know that over 500 people are injured and transported to the Hospital. This event is the worst mass shooting in American history. Processing this horrific event will take time for many Americans. Our freedoms are under attack. Large entertainment venues are the norm in the Home of the free. This madman for some reason thought this through for maximum effectiveness. Perched high above the festival with fully automatic weapons reigning terror on innocent concert attendees below.
We have so many questions, so many concerns, how could something like this happen? I open my Bible to Psalm 46. I am immediately reminded that God is my refuge. The scripture says, “God is my refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.” As we sift through the details of this tragedy, we must remember that God is our refuge. He alone is our strength.
The events of the morning are horrific, confusing and overwhelming. This mass shooting reminds me that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. We cannot know what tomorrow will bring. I want to encourage you today to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” In times like these, we cannot “lean on our understanding.” God is love! It is He that directs our paths. We do not know at this time why this dreadful deed was committed, so we are to turn to Him and trust in Him. Please take time today and this week to lift these families and city before the Lord. Keep the faith!
I love you all!
